COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Advanced Mathematics (Honours) / Bachelor of Arts at UNSW requires students to complete a total of 240 Units of Credit (UOC), combining in-depth quantitative training with broad studies in the humanities and social sciences. The Bachelor of Arts component accounts for 96 UOC and offers flexible pathways for specialisation. Students may complete either one 48 UOC major, a 36 UOC minor, and 12 UOC of prescribed electives, or alternatively pursue a double major consisting of two 48 UOC specialisations. This structure allows students to tailor their arts studies to their interests across areas such as humanities, languages, social sciences, creative arts, or business, developing strong critical thinking and communication skills. The Bachelor of Advanced Mathematics (Honours) component contributes 144 UOC and provides advanced training in mathematical and statistical methods. It includes an approved Advanced Mathematics (Honours) major, the SCIF1131 course, a 48 UOC Honours year, and additional Science elective courses that broaden disciplinary knowledge. The honours year is a key feature of the program, involving advanced coursework and an independent research project that develops high-level analytical and problem-solving abilities. Together, this double degree equips students with a unique combination of technical mathematical expertise and broad contextual understanding of human society, enabling graduates to pursue diverse careers in fields such as data analysis, policy, research, education, communications, and any profession requiring both quantitative and interdisciplinary thinking.
