COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science at UNSW is a flexible undergraduate program requiring the completion of 144 Units of Credit (UOC) when taken as a standalone degree. The program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in scientific knowledge while allowing them to tailor their studies to specific interests and career goals. Students must complete 96 UOC of Science courses, which include core subjects, at least one major within the Bachelor of Science, and additional science elective courses. These courses ensure a solid grounding in scientific principles while enabling deeper specialisation in chosen fields such as biology, chemistry, physics, or environmental sciences. In addition, students complete 36 UOC of Free Electives, which may be selected from any faculty at UNSW, providing opportunities to broaden academic knowledge and explore interdisciplinary areas beyond science. The program also includes 12 UOC of General Education courses, which must be taken outside the science discipline to encourage wider intellectual development and critical thinking across different fields of study. This structure ensures that students gain both depth and breadth in their education, combining specialised scientific training with broader academic exposure. Overall, the Bachelor of Science equips graduates with strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills, preparing them for diverse careers in science, industry, research, and further study.
