COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Medicinal Chemistry (Honours) / Bachelor of Laws is a demanding double degree requiring students to complete a total of 312 Units of Credit (UOC), combining advanced scientific training with comprehensive legal education. The program integrates 168 UOC of Medicinal Chemistry (Honours) with 144 UOC of Law, preparing graduates to work at the intersection of pharmaceutical science, regulation, and legal practice. The Law component includes 96 UOC of compulsory courses that provide a strong foundation in legal principles, reasoning, and the Australian legal system. In addition, students complete 6 UOC of prescribed law electives and 42 UOC of law elective courses, allowing them to explore specialised areas of legal study such as corporate law, intellectual property, or regulatory frameworks. The Medicinal Chemistry (Honours) component covers advanced study in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, and drug development, including the full honours-level research experience. Students gain expertise in designing and synthesising pharmaceutical compounds, understanding their biological effects, and navigating the scientific and regulatory processes involved in bringing new medicines to market. The Honours year further strengthens research, analytical, and laboratory skills through an in-depth independent project. Together, the Law (Program 4701) and Medicinal Chemistry (Program 3999) components create a unique interdisciplinary qualification that equips graduates for careers in pharmaceutical law, drug regulation, intellectual property, scientific research, and industries where science and legal systems intersect.
