COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Medical Studies / Doctor of Medicine (BMed/MD) is a six-year integrated program requiring students to complete a total of 288 Units of Credit (UOC), combining intensive academic learning with extensive clinical training. The program is structured as a modular course of study delivered over 26 teaching periods, each typically lasting eight weeks, ensuring continuous and progressive development of medical knowledge and skills. In Years 1 to 4, students follow a structure aligned closely with the standard university semester system, completing four teaching periods per year. In Years 5 and 6, an additional Summer Teaching Period is introduced to support advanced clinical learning and transition into professional practice. Students generally undertake a standard load of 48 UOC per year, ensuring a balanced and manageable progression through the degree. The Disciplinary Component accounts for 276 UOC and forms the core of the program, integrating biomedical sciences, clinical skills, and patient-centred learning across all stages of study. This is complemented by 12 UOC of General Education, which broadens students’ academic experience beyond medicine and encourages interdisciplinary thinking. The curriculum is designed to be fully integrated, meaning that theoretical knowledge, clinical exposure, and practical application are taught in parallel throughout the program. Overall, the structure ensures that graduates develop strong scientific understanding, clinical competence, and professional readiness to enter the medical workforce as capable and compassionate doctors.
