COURSE CURRICULUM

The Food Science (Honours) program is a structured degree requiring students to complete a total of 192 Units of Credit (UOC) when taken as a standalone qualification. The program is designed to provide a strong and specialised education in food science, with a major emphasis on disciplinary expertise supported by a small component of general education. Students complete 180 UOC in a chosen specialisation, ensuring deep and focused knowledge in the field of food science and technology or food science and nutrition. Within the program, students must select at least one major specialisation from the available options, including Food Science and Technology (FOODJH) or Food Science and Nutrition (FOODKH), each comprising 180 UOC of core disciplinary study. These specialisations provide advanced training in areas such as food chemistry, nutrition, food processing, product development, and food systems management. In addition, students are required to complete 12 UOC of general education courses, which allow them to broaden their academic perspective beyond their core discipline. An optional 24 UOC minor, such as Humanitarian Science and Technology (FOODA2), may also be undertaken, although availability depends on program structure and degree combination constraints. Overall, the degree offers a highly focused and research-driven learning pathway that equips students with advanced scientific knowledge, technical skills, and practical experience, preparing them for careers in the food industry, research institutions, government agencies, and related scientific fields.
