COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Fine Arts / Education (Secondary) requires the completion of 192 Units of Credit (UOC) and is typically undertaken over four years of full-time study. The program is carefully structured to satisfy the accreditation requirements of the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) for teaching areas including music, visual arts, and graphics and multimedia technology. Students complete a total of 31 courses throughout the degree, generally studying eight courses each year. Unlike most double degrees that consist of 32 courses, this program includes a second teaching internship that carries the equivalent value of two courses, reducing the total number of individual courses to 31. The degree is divided equally between the Bachelor of Fine Arts and the Bachelor of Education (Secondary), with each component contributing 96 UOC. The Fine Arts component consists entirely of a chosen specialisation, allowing students to develop advanced creative, technical, and theoretical expertise in their selected artistic field. The Education component comprises 66 UOC of core education courses that build professional teaching knowledge and skills, 24 UOC of prescribed education method electives focused on specific teaching disciplines, and 6 UOC of prescribed education electives that broaden educational understanding. Together, these components provide graduates with both professional artistic capabilities and the qualifications required to teach creative subjects in secondary schools across Australia.
