COURSE CURRICULUM

The UNSW Bachelor of Fine Arts is a three-year full-time program requiring the completion of 144 Units of Credit (UOC) when studied as a standalone degree, designed to provide both intensive artistic training and academic flexibility. The core of the program is a 96 UOC specialisation, where students focus on one of the key creative streams such as Animation and Moving Image, Art Theory, Music, or Visual Arts. This disciplinary component is structured to develop technical proficiency, conceptual understanding, and a strong personal artistic practice through studio-based and project-driven learning. In addition to the specialisation, students complete 36 UOC of free electives, which allow them to broaden their academic experience by exploring subjects across other disciplines, including creative industries, humanities, or complementary technical skills. The program also includes 12 UOC of General Education courses, which are designed to expand students’ intellectual horizons beyond their chosen field and encourage interdisciplinary thinking and critical awareness of broader social, cultural, and ethical issues. Students may also have the option to undertake minors, further tailoring their degree to suit specific interests or career goals. This flexible structure ensures that graduates not only develop deep expertise in their chosen artistic field but also gain broader academic and professional skills. As a result, they are well prepared for diverse careers in the creative industries, including visual arts, performance, media production, curating, and cultural organisations.
