COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Telecommunications is a 168 Units of Credit (UOC) program designed to build strong foundations in electrical engineering, signal processing, and modern communication systems, progressing from basic principles to advanced industry applications. In the first year, students complete 48 UOC of core subjects covering mathematics, physics, computing, electrical circuits, programming, and engineering design, establishing essential analytical and technical skills. The second year includes 36 UOC of core studies focused on engineering mathematics, analogue and digital electronics, circuits and signals, and professional engineering practice, strengthening students’ understanding of system behaviour and electronic fundamentals. In the third year, students undertake 42 UOC of advanced courses such as digital signal processing, control systems, electromagnetics, electronics, engineering design, and communications, along with network technologies that introduce modern telecommunications systems. The final year consists of 30 UOC of core studies, including leadership and ethics, advanced design proficiency, a three-part research thesis, and network security and privacy, preparing students for professional engineering roles and research. Students also complete breadth electives from areas such as computing, mathematics, humanitarian engineering, energy systems, and quantum engineering, allowing interdisciplinary learning. In addition, discipline electives enable specialization in areas like wireless communications, optical networks, embedded systems, power electronics, and signal processing. A key requirement is 60 days of industrial training, ensuring graduates gain real-world experience and are well prepared for careers in telecommunications and related engineering fields.
