COURSE CURRICULUM

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Software) specialisation is a 168 Units of Credit (UOC) program structured across core courses, electives, and a research thesis to build strong foundations in software engineering and advanced computing. In Level 1 Core Courses (42 UOC), students study foundational subjects such as Programming Fundamentals (COMP1511), Computer Systems Fundamentals (COMP1521), Software Engineering Fundamentals (COMP1531), Introduction to Engineering Design and Innovation (DESN1000), Discrete Mathematics (MATH1081), and mathematics courses like Mathematics 1A and 1B (MATH1131/MATH1141 and MATH1231/MATH1241), which establish essential programming, mathematical, and engineering design skills. Level 2 Core Courses (42 UOC) deepen technical understanding through subjects like Software Construction (COMP2041), Software Design and Architecture (COMP2511), Data Structures and Algorithms (COMP2521), Engineering Design and Professional Practice (DESN2000), alongside mathematics and reasoning courses including Finite Mathematics (MATH2400), Probability and Statistics (MATH2859), and software workshops such as SENG2011 and SENG2021. In Level 3 Core Courses (24 UOC), students advance into specialized areas like Software Testing (COMP3142), Database Systems (COMP3311), Computer Networks (COMP3331), and Software Engineering Workshop 3 (SENG3011). Level 4 Core Courses (18 UOC) focus on professional ethics (COMP4920) and a three-part research thesis (COMP4951, COMP4952, COMP4953). Additionally, students complete 36 UOC of Discipline Electives from advanced computing, engineering, mathematics, or related fields, plus 6 UOC of Free Electives for flexibility. A requirement of at least 30 UOC at Level 4 or higher ensures advanced academic depth and research readiness.
