COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Photovoltaics and Solar Energy is a four-year program that provides students with a strong foundation in mathematics, natural sciences, and computing while developing specialised expertise in solar and renewable energy technologies. The degree places a strong emphasis on practical learning, enabling students to gain hands-on experience with solar energy devices, modules, and systems. Key areas of study include technology development, manufacturing processes, quality control, reliability, cell interconnection and encapsulation, policy development, life-cycle analysis, and system design. Innovative learning tools such as the Virtual Production Line and Virtual World Solar Car Challenge enhance the educational experience by simulating real-world industry environments. A distinctive feature of the program is the opportunity in the second year to select a complementary strand in areas such as computing, electronics, mathematics, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, physics, chemical engineering, or architecture, allowing students to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals. In the first year, students typically complete introductory courses in mathematics, physics, and computing, along with ENGG1000 Introduction to Engineering Design and Innovation. The later years focus on advanced core and elective courses within the specialisation. Students must also complete two General Education electives and 60 days of industrial training, ensuring a well-rounded education that combines technical expertise, interdisciplinary thinking, and valuable industry experience for careers in the renewable energy sector.
