The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Nuclear Engineering) is a four-year degree focused on the design and application of systems that utilise nuclear and radiation processes across a range of industries and disciplines. The program combines fundamental engineering principles with specialised nuclear engineering knowledge, preparing students to solve complex technical challenges using advanced technologies. Throughout the degree, students study a broad range of subjects including atomic energy, engineering mathematics, fluid mechanics, nuclear engineering design, nuclear materials chemistry, nuclear safety, numerical methods and statistics, reactor engineering and control, and strategic design innovation. They also apply principles of high-performance computing, radiation science, and materials chemistry to real-world engineering problems, developing a versatile and interdisciplinary skill set. In the first year, students complete introductory courses in mathematics and physics, along with DESN1000 Introduction to Engineering Design and Innovation, where they learn to create practical engineering solutions while managing constraints such as time, resources, and budget. During the second year, students undertake core courses that establish foundational knowledge within the nuclear engineering specialisation. The third and fourth years focus on advanced core and elective subjects that deepen expertise in nuclear technologies and their applications. The program also includes two General Education electives, which broaden learning beyond engineering and strengthen critical thinking, interdisciplinary understanding, and adaptability. Overall, the degree prepares graduates for careers in nuclear technology, energy systems, healthcare, defence, research, and other high-technology industries.
