COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mining Engineering specialisation within the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program is structured to provide a strong foundation in engineering principles while developing specialised expertise in mining systems and resource extraction. In the first year, students typically study two introductory Mathematics courses, an introductory Physics course, and an introductory Computing course, along with an introductory course related to mining engineering. These subjects build the essential scientific and technical skills required for advanced engineering study. All students also complete ENGG1000 “Introduction to Engineering Design and Innovation,” where they learn how engineers approach problem-solving and develop practical solutions within constraints such as time, budget, and available resources. In the second year, students undertake courses from the Mining Engineering specialisation alongside core subjects that provide fundamental knowledge in areas relevant to the mining industry. During the third and fourth years, students further develop their expertise through a combination of advanced core and elective courses, allowing deeper study of mining engineering concepts and applications. The program also requires completion of two General Education electives, which broaden academic perspectives and strengthen cross-disciplinary thinking, flexibility, and critical analysis skills. In addition, students must complete 60 days of Engineering Professional Practice, gaining valuable industry experience before graduation. This multidisciplinary structure connects students with academics and industry professionals, ensuring they graduate with the technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional capabilities required for successful careers in the global mining sector.
