COURSE CURRICULUM

Bachelor of Education (Primary) (Honours), structured across 192 UOC, is delivered through 24 compulsory courses in a trimester-based model where students typically complete 48 UOC per year. The program includes six core education courses worth 36 UOC that provide foundational knowledge in teaching and learning, seven discipline courses worth 42 UOC that develop subject content expertise, and nine curriculum and pedagogy courses worth 54 UOC that focus on effective teaching strategies across learning areas. Students also complete two professional experience placements worth 6 UOC each and a 12 UOC internship, totalling 24 UOC, ensuring strong practical classroom preparation. In addition, there are three research and thesis-related courses worth 24 UOC, alongside two General Education courses worth 12 UOC that broaden academic learning. The degree includes an embedded Honours pathway, requiring students to achieve a minimum 75+ WAM by the end of Year 3 Term 1 (or equivalent 114 UOC) and complete a 6 UOC research methods course at credit level or above. Successful students then complete additional thesis coursework (6 UOC + 12 UOC) to produce an Honours thesis. Depending on the thesis focus, graduates may receive specialisation recognition in English or Mathematics aligned with AITSL and NESA standards. Those who do not meet Honours entry requirements may graduate with the standard Bachelor of Education (Primary) and can choose either a teaching specialisation pathway or additional education electives.
