COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) at UNSW Sydney is a 240 Units of Credit (UOC) double degree designed to integrate economic theory with advanced scientific training and research. The Economics component (96 UOC) includes a 6 UOC Introductory Business Core, 48 UOC of Economics core courses covering microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics, 30 UOC of Economics electives for specialised study, and 12 UOC of Business School electives that broaden understanding across related business disciplines. Students may also structure their studies to complete an optional Economics major using core and elective courses. The Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) component (144 UOC) allows students to pursue at least one approved science major across physical, natural, or human sciences, supported by foundational courses SCIF1001 and SCIF2001. A significant feature of this degree is the 48 UOC Honours year, where students undertake supervised research, developing advanced analytical, methodological, and independent research skills. The remaining science elective courses provide further flexibility to deepen or diversify scientific expertise. By combining economics with advanced scientific study, the program equips students with strong quantitative, analytical, and research capabilities. Graduates are prepared to address complex global challenges at the intersection of economics and science, including sustainability, innovation, health, and policy development, and are well positioned for careers in research, government, consulting, and data-driven scientific and economic fields.
