COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Economics at UNSW Sydney is a 144 Units of Credit (UOC) standalone undergraduate program designed to build strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills for understanding economic systems. The degree is structured around an introductory 6 UOC Business Core course, followed by 48 UOC of Economics core courses that establish a foundation in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics. Students further deepen their expertise through 30 UOC of Economics electives, allowing them to explore specialised areas such as behavioural economics, international economics, or applied economic analysis. The program also includes 12 UOC of Business School electives, enabling interdisciplinary learning within business-related disciplines, and 36 UOC of free electives, which provide flexibility to study subjects across the university or pursue complementary interests. In addition, 12 UOC of General Education courses ensure a broader academic experience outside economics and business fields, supporting well-rounded intellectual development. Students may also use core and elective courses to complete an optional Economics major, and can further expand their qualifications by undertaking additional majors or minors using elective space. The structure emphasises flexibility, allowing students to tailor their degree to specific career goals. Graduates develop strong skills in data analysis, economic modelling, and critical thinking, preparing them for careers in finance, consulting, policy, government, and business strategy, as well as opportunities for further honours study and advanced research pathways.
