COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Design at UNSW Sydney is a 144 Units of Credit (UOC) standalone undergraduate program structured to provide both specialised design training and broad academic flexibility. The degree centres on a 96 UOC specialisation component, where students choose one major pathway in Computational Design, Integrated Design, or Industrial Design, developing advanced skills in creative problem-solving, digital tools, and design innovation. Alongside this core focus, students complete 36 UOC of free electives, allowing them to explore subjects across the university or deepen their expertise through optional minors. A further 12 UOC of General Education courses ensures interdisciplinary learning, provided the subjects fall outside specified design-related disciplines, promoting broader intellectual engagement. The program also offers a wide range of optional minors, including areas such as Graphic Design, Textiles and Fashion Design, Robotic Fabrication, Game Design, Art History, Psychology, Media Studies, and International Studies, enabling students to tailor their degree to specific career interests. This flexible structure supports both depth in a chosen design discipline and breadth across creative, technical, and humanities fields. Through studio-based learning, hands-on practice, and access to advanced facilities, students develop conceptual, technical, and professional skills. Graduates are prepared for diverse careers in design industries such as UX, product development, digital media, architecture-related fields, and emerging creative technologies, equipped to address complex real-world design challenges.
