COURSE CURRICULUM

The Data Science and Decisions/Law double degree at UNSW Sydney is a 264 Units of Credit (UOC) program that integrates rigorous training in both data science and legal studies. It consists of a 120 UOC Data Science and Decisions component and a 144 UOC Law component, providing students with a strong interdisciplinary foundation across quantitative analysis, computation, and legal reasoning. The Data Science and Decisions stream develops expertise in statistical methods, mathematical modelling, programming, machine learning, and decision science, enabling students to analyse complex datasets and support evidence-based decision-making. The Law component builds comprehensive knowledge of legal principles, institutions, and practice areas, including constitutional law, criminal law, contracts, and administrative law, along with critical thinking and advocacy skills. By combining these disciplines, students learn to apply data-driven insights within legal contexts and critically assess the role of technology in the justice system. The program prepares graduates to address emerging challenges where law and data intersect, such as legal analytics, regulatory compliance, digital governance, and access to justice. It also emphasises ethical considerations, ensuring responsible use of data in legal decision-making. Graduates are equipped for careers in law, policy, legal technology, consulting, analytics, and public service, where interdisciplinary expertise is increasingly valued in shaping modern legal and regulatory systems.
