COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Data Science and Decisions at UNSW Sydney is a 144 Units of Credit (UOC) standalone undergraduate program designed to develop advanced skills in data analysis, statistics, computing, and decision-making. The degree includes 120 UOC of Data Science and Decisions courses, which are structured across Stages 1, 2, and 3 to build progressive expertise from foundational concepts to advanced applications. Within this component, students complete 72 UOC of core courses that establish essential knowledge in mathematical methods, statistical modelling, programming, and decision sciences. Students also undertake one approved major worth approximately 66–72 UOC, where 18–24 UOC of core program courses may be double-counted and the remaining 48 UOC are specialised subjects aligned with the chosen focus area. In addition, the program includes 12 UOC of free electives, allowing students to explore subjects from any faculty across the university, and 12 UOC of General Education courses, which must be outside Science, Engineering, and Business disciplines to encourage broader intellectual development. This flexible yet structured design ensures students gain both depth and breadth of knowledge. The program equips graduates with strong analytical, computational, and strategic thinking skills, preparing them for careers in data science, analytics, consulting, finance, government, and technology, where evidence-based decision-making is essential for solving complex real-world problems.
