COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Criminology & Criminal Justice / Psychology (Honours) at UNSW is a five-year double degree program that requires students to complete a total of 240 Units of Credit (UOC), combining 144 UOC in Psychology (Honours) and 96 UOC in Criminology & Criminal Justice. The Criminology & Criminal Justice component includes 42 UOC of core courses that explore crime, justice systems, and social issues such as policing, victimisation, youth justice, drug-related harm, and community safety. Students also complete 36 UOC of social science core courses that provide a broader understanding of society, institutions, and policy, along with 18 UOC of criminology electives that allow deeper study of specialised topics. The Psychology (Honours) component includes 96 UOC of psychology coursework across Stages 1 to 3, covering foundational and advanced topics such as cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, and mental health. In the final stage, students complete a 48 UOC Honours year, which involves advanced research training, a thesis, and specialised psychology study. This structure ensures strong academic and research preparation in psychology alongside applied knowledge in criminology. Overall, the degree develops strong analytical, research, and communication skills, preparing graduates for careers in psychology, criminal justice, counselling, rehabilitation, policy development, law enforcement, and research roles focused on understanding and improving human behaviour and justice systems.
