COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Criminology & Criminal Justice / Law at UNSW is a five-year double degree program that requires students to complete a total of 240 Units of Credit (UOC), combining 144 UOC from Law and 96 UOC from Criminology & Criminal Justice. The Law component includes 96 UOC of compulsory core courses that cover essential legal areas such as contracts, criminal law, constitutional law, and legal systems. Students also complete a 6 UOC prescribed law elective and 42 UOC of additional law electives, allowing them to specialise in different areas of legal study. The Criminology & Criminal Justice component includes 42 UOC of core criminology subjects that examine crime, justice systems, and social issues such as policing, prisons, and criminal behaviour. However, in this double degree, some core criminology courses are replaced by law subjects due to overlapping content. Students also complete 36 UOC of social science core courses that provide a broader understanding of society, institutions, and policy. In addition, 18 UOC of criminology electives allow students to explore specialised topics in greater depth. Overall, this structure ensures students gain both strong legal training and a deep understanding of crime and justice systems. The degree prepares graduates for careers in law, policing, corrections, policy development, social justice, government, and criminal justice organisations.
