COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Commerce / Economics at UNSW is a double degree that requires students to complete a total of 192 Units of Credit (UOC), with 96 UOC from Commerce and 96 UOC from Economics. The Commerce component includes 48 UOC of Integrated First Year courses that provide a foundation in business, problem-solving, analytics, and decision-making. Students also complete the MyBCom career development program, choose a Commerce major, undertake a compulsory Work Integrated Learning course for practical industry experience, and complete a Final Year Synthesis project that brings together their learning. In this double degree, some Commerce first-year requirements are replaced by Economics subjects because of overlapping content. The Economics component includes 48 UOC of core Economics courses covering microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and economic analysis. Students also complete 30 UOC of Economics electives, allowing them to explore specialised areas such as international economics, development economics, public policy, or financial economics. In addition, 12 UOC of business electives are included. Students may also use their Economics courses to complete an optional Economics major. Because some subjects count toward both degrees, students who complete all requirements in fewer than 192 UOC can choose additional free electives to reach the required total. Overall, this degree develops strong business, analytical, statistical, and economic skills, preparing graduates for careers in finance, consulting, government, policy analysis, banking, and business strategy.
