COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Aviation (RPAS) at UNSW is a three-year full-time program that requires students to complete a total of 144 Units of Credit (UOC). It is designed to train students in remotely piloted aircraft systems (drones) and aviation operations. The program includes 126 UOC of core courses, 6 UOC of prescribed electives, and 12 UOC of general education courses. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in aeronautical science, aviation safety, human factors, aviation economics, communication skills, mathematics, and statistics. The second year focuses on professional aviation subjects such as commercial navigation, meteorology, air law, aircraft systems, aerodynamics, flight rules, and instrument rating. In the third year, students study advanced topics including air transport flight planning, aircraft systems, navigation, performance, aviation safety, and research methods, along with a choice between human factors tools and methods or an aviation work placement. Students must also complete flight-related theory exams and licensing requirements, including CASA examinations such as CPL, instrument rating, and ATPL theory, depending on the pathway. The program also includes practical assessments conducted by certified flight examiners. Overall, this degree prepares students for careers in aviation operations, drone technology, aviation safety, and related industries by combining technical knowledge, regulatory training, and practical aviation experience in a structured and professional learning environment.
