COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts / Education (Secondary) at UNSW is a four-year double degree program that requires students to complete a total of 192 Units of Credit (UOC). It combines 96 UOC from the Bachelor of Arts and 96 UOC from the Bachelor of Education. In the Arts component, students either complete one major (48 UOC) and one minor (36 UOC) along with 12 UOC of prescribed electives, or they can choose to complete two majors of 48 UOC each. This allows students to specialise in areas such as humanities, social sciences, languages, or performing arts, depending on their interests and intended teaching subject. In the Education component, students complete 66 UOC of core education courses that focus on how students learn, teaching methods, curriculum design, and classroom practice. They also complete 24 UOC of prescribed education method electives, which prepare them to teach specific school subjects, and 6 UOC of additional education electives to broaden their understanding of teaching and learning. The program also includes significant classroom-based practical experience across different school settings, helping students develop real teaching skills. Overall, this degree prepares graduates to become qualified secondary school teachers who are confident in both subject knowledge and modern educational practices, ready to teach and inspire students in schools.
