COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Advanced Computer Science (Honours) degree structure offers flexibility depending on your chosen specialisation, timetabling, and course selection. In the first two years, you typically study foundational courses including two mathematics subjects and an extension course in Algorithms and Programming Techniques. You’ll also cover a variety of advanced core topics such as Programming, Computer Systems, Software Engineering, Data Structures, Computer Networks, Ethics, and Object-Oriented Design. Starting from your second year, the program becomes more specialised, with courses tailored to your chosen major, allowing you to deepen your knowledge in areas like Computer Science, Security Engineering, or Artificial Intelligence. You will also complete several advanced computing electives, and have opportunities to participate in hands-on, team-based research projects such as those offered through the Vertically Integrated Project under the ChallENG program. Throughout the degree, you are required to complete two General Education electives, which broaden your education by encouraging cross-disciplinary thinking and critical analysis through courses outside the engineering faculty. In your final year, you undertake a Computer Science Thesis Project, where you apply the engineering principles learned throughout your studies to solve complex, real-world problems. This project may involve developing a specific design, process, or investigating a hypothesis, giving you valuable experience in research and development environments. It also helps you hone creative planning and problem-solving skills essential for success in your future career.
