COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Actuarial Studies/Law is a five-year full-time double degree program consisting of 40 courses (240 Units of Credit). Despite covering two degrees, the workload is designed to be manageable, with students completing the equivalent of a single full-time study load each year—eight courses (48 UOC) spread across three academic terms. The three-term calendar offers flexibility, with two terms comprising three courses each and one term with two courses, allowing students to balance their studies with extracurricular activities or for-credit industry experiences. The program includes practical, hands-on learning components such as interactive teaching, group projects, and a clinical placement where students work directly with clients and lawyers at the Kingsford Legal Centre, a fully operational legal clinic within the UNSW Law & Justice Building. This provides valuable real-world legal experience alongside academic study. Students can also choose from a range of optional majors to tailor their degree to their interests and career goals. Actuarial Studies majors include Actuarial Risk Management & Analytics, Computational Data Science, and Quantitative Data Science, while Commerce majors offer options such as Accounting, Behavioural Economics, Business Analytics, and Business Economics. This combination of actuarial science and law equips students with both technical quantitative skills and a deep understanding of legal principles, preparing them for diverse careers in areas like insurance, finance, legal consulting, risk management, and beyond. The program is ideal for those seeking a dynamic education that blends analytical rigor, legal expertise, and practical experience, all while maintaining a balanced and flexible study schedule.
