COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Actuarial Studies / Economics at UNSW is a double degree program that requires students to complete a total of 192 Units of Credit (UOC). This program combines two major study areas: Actuarial Studies (96 UOC) and Economics (96 UOC), giving students strong skills in mathematics, statistics, finance, and economic analysis. In the Actuarial Studies part, students complete Level 1 core courses (48 UOC), Level 2 core courses (24 UOC), one Level 3 core course (6 UOC), and Level 3 actuarial electives (18 UOC). In the Economics part, students study core economics subjects and electives, including introductory business core concepts (6 UOC), which are already covered through actuarial Level 1 courses. Key economics subjects like ECON1101 and ECON1102 are integrated into the program, while some mathematics courses like MATH1151 and MATH1251 are used in place of other economics requirements, so students do not need to repeat similar content. Students also complete 30 UOC of economics electives and 12 UOC of business school electives, which are usually satisfied through actuarial courses in higher years. If there are any remaining credit gaps due to overlapping subjects, students take free electives to reach the full 192 UOC requirement. Overall, this structure ensures students gain deep expertise in both actuarial science and economics, preparing them for careers in finance, insurance, consulting, policy analysis, and data-driven decision-making roles.
