COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Actuarial Studies / Computer Science at UNSW is a double degree that combines two major fields: actuarial studies and computer science. In this program, students complete both an Actuarial Studies major and a Computer Science major. The actuarial major includes 12 core courses and 4 related electives, while the computer science major includes 11 core courses and 5 related electives. The structure is designed so that students first build strong foundations in mathematics, statistics, programming, and computing before moving on to advanced topics in later years. Some subjects must be completed in the first and second year because they are prerequisites for higher-level courses. The program is usually completed over four years of full-time study, with three academic terms each year and an optional summer study period. In the first year, students focus mainly on introductory actuarial and computer science core courses to develop basic skills. In the second year, they continue with intermediate actuarial courses and advanced computing subjects. In the third year, students study higher-level actuarial topics and more advanced computer science courses. In the fourth year, the focus shifts to advanced actuarial studies, computer science electives, and business-related electives. Overall, this structure ensures students gain both deep mathematical expertise and strong technical computing skills, preparing them for careers in data science, finance, AI, software development, and actuarial professions.
