COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Actuarial Studies at UNSW requires students to complete a total of 144 Units of Credit (UOC) to graduate. These credits are divided into different parts to build strong skills in mathematics, statistics, finance, and risk analysis. Out of the total 144 UOC, the Disciplinary Component (96 UOC) is the main part, which includes all core actuarial subjects. This is further divided into Level 1 core courses (48 UOC) that build the basic foundation in maths, statistics, and actuarial concepts, Level 2 core courses (24 UOC) that focus on more advanced topics like financial modelling and data analysis, and Level 3 core courses (6 UOC) that cover specialised advanced actuarial subjects. In addition, students take Level 3 electives (18 UOC), where they can choose actuarial or related subjects based on interest. Apart from this, there are Free Electives (36 UOC), which allow students to study subjects from other areas such as business, computing, or data science to gain broader knowledge. Finally, General Education (12 UOC) includes non-technical subjects that help develop communication, writing, and critical thinking skills. Overall, this structure ensures students gain strong actuarial expertise along with a wide academic foundation useful for future careers.
