COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Agriculture at UNE requires students to complete 96 credit points to qualify for the award, with specific requirements depending on the admission pathway. Candidates admitted under Rule (a) must complete 96 credit points, including no more than 18 credit points at 100-level, no more than 18 credit points at 200-level, and at least 36 credit points at 500-level, ensuring a strong foundation in advanced agricultural studies. Their coursework comprises core units and listed units tailored to provide both fundamental and specialised knowledge in agriculture. Candidates admitted under Rule (b) or (c) also complete 96 credit points, with a minimum of 36 credit points at 500-level, and may receive advanced standing for previous study or professional experience. Their course structure includes core units, listed units, and, where applicable, advanced standing units to recognise prior learning. Across all pathways, the curriculum is designed to develop expertise in key agricultural fields such as animal science, genetics and breeding, meat science, soil science, agronomy, and sustainable production systems. Students engage in research skills and methodology units to strengthen their capacity for independent research and problem-solving, culminating in opportunities for a major research project or dissertation, which can serve as a pathway to higher degree research such as a PhD. The flexible design of the course allows study on campus at UNE’s state-of-the-art facilities or online, accommodating professional and personal commitments. The structure emphasizes a balance of theoretical understanding, applied research, and practical experience, ensuring graduates are prepared to contribute effectively to the agricultural sector.
