COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Education (Research) is designed to support high-achieving graduates in developing the expertise needed to make a substantial and original contribution to educational scholarship. The course aims to provide an academically rigorous environment in which students undertake supervised study, dedicating two thirds of their program to research, research training, and independent inquiry. Graduates of this program are expected to demonstrate mastery in their field of Education by gaining deep intellectual skills informed by contemporary developments, producing scholarship that can meet peer-review standards, and showing strong knowledge of research principles and methods appropriate for advanced academic investigation. They will be able to conduct research independently by conceptualising, designing, and implementing projects that expand knowledge or generate new insights in their specialised area. This includes evaluating complex ideas, making informed judgments, and communicating research findings effectively to both specialist and non-specialist audiences. The course also emphasises accountability in learning and professional practice, encouraging graduates to engage in further research or advanced careers, contribute new ideas or techniques, and operate with autonomy in unpredictable or complex environments. Graduates develop a solid command of theoretical and interdisciplinary knowledge, engage critically with global and national educational issues, and demonstrate advanced understanding of research methods. Strong communication skills are fostered through designing and disseminating research projects, while problem-solving skills are strengthened by addressing complex educational challenges. Students become proficient in information literacy, applying advanced research techniques and technologies to construct arguments and analyse academic literature. Ethical conduct and social responsibility are central, guiding students to conduct research responsibly and evaluate the broader implications of educational theory. Although the course emphasises independent work, students also engage in collaborative learning through research methodology units and supervisory relationships, helping them develop both independence and effective collegial skills.
