COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts at the University of New England (UNE) is designed to provide advanced knowledge and skills in a chosen field, combining depth of study with intellectual flexibility. To qualify for the award, candidates must complete 72 credit points, with at least 48 credit points at 500-level from units within their nominated major. This ensures that the program maintains a strong focus on higher-level learning, while also allowing students to broaden their knowledge through selected lower-level units where permitted. Dissertation, research, and reading units are required to remain within the same area of study as the nominated major, ensuring coherence and depth in the program of study.Candidates admitted under Rule (a) have the flexibility to complete up to 12 credit points at 100-level and up to 12 credit points at 200/300/400-level, while still meeting the requirement of 48 credit points at 500-level within their chosen major. This allows students who may be switching disciplines or who need foundational knowledge to prepare adequately for advanced study. Candidates admitted under Rule (b) are required to complete the full 48 credit points at 500-level as outlined in the program of study for their nominated major. This approach ensures that all students engage deeply with their chosen discipline and acquire advanced analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.UNE offers a broad range of majors across arts, humanities, and social sciences, enabling students to tailor their studies to their academic interests and career aspirations. By selecting from these majors, students can develop specialised expertise while enhancing transferable skills such as research, communication, and critical analysis.
