COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graduate Certificate in Data Science at UNE requires students to complete 24 credit points, with at least 18 credit points at 400-level or above. The course is designed to provide students with advanced skills and knowledge in data science, preparing them for careers in a rapidly growing and evolving field. Students can select from a broad range of units, allowing them to tailor their studies to their specific career goals and interests. Units cover key areas such as computational mathematics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, database management, programming paradigms, operating systems, software project management, parallel and distributed computing, computer networks, network security, web programming, cryptography, deep learning, reinforcement learning, user experience and interaction design, algorithms in machine learning, and information privacy. Additional units offer opportunities to explore applied areas such as genomics and bioinformatics, healthcare information management, precision agriculture, spatial analysis and remote sensing, statistical modelling, and scientific programming. This structure ensures that students develop a solid foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of data science, including the ability to analyse large datasets, design algorithms, and implement computational solutions. By completing the required credit points, students gain a strong platform to progress to further study, such as the Graduate Diploma in Data Science or the Master of Data Science, with credit for the units already completed. UNE’s program also emphasizes flexibility, enabling students to study online or on campus, full-time or part-time, and provides extensive support through 24/7 access to tutors, workshops, and academic resources.
