COURSE CURRICULUM

The Diploma in Science at UNE is a one-year full-time or part-time equivalent course that provides students with foundational skills and knowledge across a broad range of scientific disciplines. To qualify for the award, candidates must complete 48 credit points, with 24 credit points allocated to core units and the remaining 24 credit points taken from either General Studies in Science, a Minor, or the OUA program. Core units include Introductory Chemistry, Introductory Physics, Introduction to Quantitative Skills, and Science in Practice, providing students with essential scientific knowledge and skills. For the remaining 24 credit points, students have the option to follow a structured pathway by completing units within a Minor, which can optimize advanced standing when progressing into a related Bachelor’s degree, or they may select Listed Units for greater flexibility, though this may result in reduced advanced standing. The course is designed to accommodate students with varying levels of prior scientific knowledge, and substitutions with higher-level science units may be approved at the discretion of the Course Coordinator. The Diploma offers flexibility in delivery, with online study supported by 24/7 tutor assistance and opportunities for on-campus engagement, including practical sessions and intensive schools. By completing this program, students gain scientific literacy, problem-solving skills, and practical experience, providing a solid foundation for further studies or professional development. Graduates can progress to various Bachelor’s degrees, including the Bachelor of Science, and benefit from the knowledge and skills gained through hands-on laboratory work, quantitative training, and applied science practice.
