The Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning at UNE equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to design, manage, and improve urban and regional communities. To qualify for the award, candidates must complete 192 credit points, including a minimum of 12 credit points at the 400-level, no more than 48 credit points at 100-level, and 12 weeks of approved practical experience. The program includes 144 credit points of core units covering a broad range of planning, environmental, and spatial topics. Key units include Foundations in Cultural Heritage Management, Introduction to GIS and Spatial Thinking, Local Environmental Infrastructure, Planning for Land Use and Built Form, Principles of Development Control, Rural Planning and Resource Management, Community Planning and Participation, and Place-making for People and the Environment. Students also study contemporary challenges such as Global Climate Change and the Future, Economic Change and Urban Development, and Transport and Land Use Planning, while gaining exposure to architectural design and urban design principles. Practical learning is embedded through a 12-week Professional Experience unit, allowing students to apply their skills in real-world planning contexts. The course can be completed with or without an Honours year, providing flexibility for students based on career goals and academic aspirations. UNE emphasizes both theoretical understanding and hands-on learning, ensuring graduates are equipped to address complex social, economic, and environmental issues. Students benefit from the option to study online or on campus, with flexible scheduling to balance work and personal commitments. Graduates are prepared for careers in urban planning, regional development, environmental management, and related fields, with the ability to make meaningful contributions to sustainable, resilient, and liveable communities.
