COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Sustainability requires students to complete a total of 144 credit points, ensuring a balanced mix of foundational and advanced learning. To qualify for the award, candidates must complete no more than 60 credit points at the 100 level and at least 36 credit points at the 300 level, ensuring sufficient depth and progression in their studies. A key feature of the course is the mandatory Sustainable Development major, which accounts for 48 credit points and provides a strong grounding in the principles, challenges and practical applications of sustainable development in local and global contexts. In addition to this compulsory major, students can tailor their degree by choosing one or two additional majors from a list of specialised study areas. These include Community Engagement and Development, Cultural Heritage Management, Environmental Governance, Environmental Resilience, Governance and Regulation and Water Sustainability. Each major allows students to focus on different aspects of sustainability, from working directly with communities to developing policy, managing natural resources or addressing environmental and cultural challenges. Depending on the combination of majors selected, students may also complete between 0 and 48 credit points of elective units. These electives can be chosen from any unit offered by the University, provided students meet overall course requirements, prerequisites and timetable availability. This flexible structure allows candidates to personalise their study pathway to match their interests, career goals and previous experience, while still meeting the academic standards of the degree. Students are encouraged to consult the UNE Handbook for comprehensive details about the course, including unit descriptions, course plans, progression rules, intensive school requirements and information on work-integrated learning. The handbook provides essential guidance for planning a successful and well-organised study program throughout the degree.
