COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Social Work is structured to ensure graduates develop strong theoretical knowledge, practical skills and professional readiness. To qualify for the award, students must successfully complete 192 credit points, which include 36 credit points of mandatory fieldwork. The course is organised through different rules that apply depending on the admission pathway. Candidates admitted under Rule A complete 192 credit points that incorporate advanced standing where applicable, along with a combination of core units and listed units that support the development of foundational and specialised social work capabilities. Candidates admitted under Rule B also complete 192 credit points but follow a different mix of core units and listed units that align with their background and entry criteria. Candidates admitted under Rule C complete advanced standing where eligible, and progress through a tailored sequence of core units and listed units designed to complement their prior qualifications or professional experience. Across all rules, students engage with units that build an understanding of human behaviour, social systems, policy frameworks and culturally responsive practice. A major component of the degree is the completion of supervised field education, which provides opportunities to apply learning in real-world settings such as community organisations, health services, schools and government agencies. These placements are crucial for developing hands-on skills, professional judgment and confidence in working with individuals, families and groups.
