COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Laws is structured to provide a comprehensive legal education that develops foundational knowledge, advanced understanding and professional capability. To qualify for the degree, students must complete 144 credit points, including no more than 48 credit points at 100 level and at least 36 credit points at 300 level or above. Those aiming to graduate with Honours must meet the same requirements for lower-level units but must also complete at least 36 credit points at 400 level or higher, including the compulsory units LAW490 and LLM500. The core program consists of 96 credit points and covers all major areas of legal study. Students begin with foundational subjects such as Foundations of Law, Law in Context and Legal Professional Skills before progressing into key areas including Torts Law, Criminal Law, Contract Law, Property Law and Civil Dispute Resolution. The structure continues with advanced subjects such as Evidence and Proof, Professional Conduct, Equity and Trusts, Corporations Law, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Remedies and Advanced Legal Skills, and Technology and the Law. In addition to core units, coursework students complete 48 credit points of listed law units, with a maximum of 6 credit points at 400 level, giving them the opportunity to explore specialised legal fields that match their interests and career goals. Honours candidates instead complete 30 credit points of listed units, along with 18 credit points of compulsory Honours units, which include the Honours in Law thesis and Research Methodology and Theory. This pathway allows academically strong students to develop advanced research skills and prepare for further study or specialised professional roles. The structure of the program ensures that all graduates emerge with strong analytical, practical and ethical skills while also having the flexibility to pursue areas of personal interest within the broader legal field.
