COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of International Studies requires students to complete 144 credit points, ensuring a balanced academic load with no more than 60 credit points at the 100 level, at least 72 credit points at the 300 level, and no more than 12 credit points at the 400 level. The course begins with 24 credit points of core foundational units that introduce key themes in global studies, such as the international economy, cultural communication, global political dynamics, peace studies, sociology and environmental challenges. Students then complete 6 credit points in an introductory language, choosing from Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese or Spanish, or they may develop general conversational language skills through a broader language unit. This language component supports the program’s intercultural focus and prepares students for advanced disciplinary study. The major component is central to the degree, requiring students to complete two majors totalling 96 credit points. The available majors include Global Politics and Peace, Human Futures and Global Challenges, International Business, International Law, and Languages and Cultures. Each major offers a deep exploration of specific global issues, from political conflict and peacebuilding to economic systems, legal frameworks, cultural studies and emerging global challenges. These majors allow students to tailor the degree to their personal interests and career goals, building specialist knowledge while strengthening analytical, communication and research skills. Finally, students complete 18 credit points of elective units, chosen from across the university, enabling additional flexibility and interdisciplinary breadth. Electives must meet standard course requirements, including prerequisites and timetabling constraints. Together, the structured core, language study, dual majors and electives create a comprehensive and flexible program that develops globally informed graduates with strong intercultural understanding and the capacity to analyse complex international issues.
