COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Information Technology requires students to complete a total of 144 credit points, with specific limits ensuring a balanced progression through the degree. Candidates can complete no more than 60 credit points at the 100 level, at least 36 credit points at the 300 level and no more than 12 credit points at the 400 level. The course includes 48 credit points of core units that provide essential technical foundations. These core units cover key areas such as programming, cybersecurity, database systems, software development, operating systems and project management. Students begin with units like Introduction to Programming and the UNIX Environment and Object Oriented Programming, which build the groundwork for more advanced studies. Core knowledge further expands through units in cybersecurity and privacy, database management, software development studios, operating systems and software project management. Students must also complete the unit From Logic to Data Processing, which strengthens analytical and problem-solving skills. After completing the core, students can specialise by choosing either one major or two majors. The available majors include Information Systems and Cybersecurity, Analytics and the Internet of Things and Software Development. Students who choose to complete two majors may take up to 12 credit points at the 400 level and can replace overlapping units with additional 300-level units from within the course. Those completing one major must undertake 48 credit points of elective units. Electives may be chosen from any 100, 200 or 300-level units offered by the University, provided that no more than 24 credit points are at the 100 level and at least 12 credit points are at the 300 level, while also meeting prerequisite and timetable requirements. Further details, including course plans, intensive schools and placement information, can be found in the UNE Handbook.
