COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Computer Science is structured to give students a strong academic foundation along with the flexibility to tailor their learning to their interests and career goals. To qualify for the award, students must successfully complete 144 credit points, ensuring no more than 60 credit points are taken at the 100 level. Additionally, students must complete either at least 36 credit points from 300-level COSC units or the unit STAT330 combined with at least 30 credit points from 300-level COSC units. The course offers three study options, allowing students to choose between completing one major with 42 credit points of electives, one major plus one minor with 18 credit points of electives, or two majors. All students are required to complete 60 credit points of core units that build essential knowledge in programming, mathematics, systems and software development. These include Discrete Mathematics (AMTH140), Introduction to Programming and the UNIX Environment (COSC110), Object Oriented Programming (COSC120), Fundamentals of Cybersecurity and Privacy (COSC130), Database Management Systems (COSC210), Software Development Studio 2 (COSC220), Data Structures and Algorithms (COSC230), Operating Systems (COSC240), Software Project Management (COSC310), and the Information Technology Project (COSC320), each valued at 6 credit points. Through this structure, students develop strong analytical, technical and problem-solving skills while engaging with practical coursework and project-based learning. The availability of approved majors and minors enables students to specialise in areas that align with emerging technologies and industry needs, while elective units offer additional breadth and flexibility. This course structure ensures that graduates are equipped with a balanced combination of theory, hands-on experience and advanced skills required to thrive in a wide range of computing and technology-focused careers.
