COURSE CURRICULUM
The course structure requires students to complete a total of 144 credit points, ensuring a balanced progression from introductory to advanced learning. Students may take no more than 60 credit points at the 100 level and must complete at least 36 credit points at the 300 level to demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills. The core component makes up 114 credit points and provides a strong foundation in the biomedical sciences. It includes essential subjects such as molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, biology, chemistry, genetics and microbiology, which help students develop a clear understanding of how living systems function at the molecular and cellular levels. Practical skills are strengthened through laboratory-based units such as molecular laboratory skills, integrated physiology skills and a capstone unit focused on biophysiological techniques. The core units also cover human physiology, pathophysiology, immunology, haematology, quantitative skills, calculus, statistical modelling and experimental design, ensuring that students gain both theoretical knowledge and essential analytical skills. Students then personalise their degree by completing 24 credit points through an approved specialist minor or by selecting units from the listed groups. Specialist minors include biomedical research, medicinal chemistry, medical pathology and neuroscience, each designed to provide focused knowledge in areas aligned with industry needs and emerging scientific advancements. Students who choose not to take a minor may instead complete up to 24 credit points from Group 1 listed units and up to 12 credit points from Group 2 listed units, allowing them to create a study path that best suits their interests and career goals. An additional 30 credit points come from the listed units, giving students further flexibility to broaden their expertise. Overall, this structure offers a comprehensive blend of theoretical grounding, practical experience and opportunities for specialisation, preparing graduates for diverse roles in the biomedical and health sciences.
