COURSE CURRICULUM

The course structure of this program is designed to provide students with a balanced and flexible learning experience while ensuring they acquire both foundational and advanced academic skills. To qualify for the award, a total of 72 credit points must be completed, with no more than 48 credit points at the 100 level and at least 24 credit points at the 200 or 300 level. Early progress in the course is important, and students are required to complete 12 credit points of core units within their first two trimesters of attempted study. Failure to meet this progression rule may result in a requirement to justify continued enrolment or the imposition of study conditions. The core units, worth 12 credit points, consist of The Academic Practice of Research and Critical Analysis and The Craft of Academic Writing, each providing essential skills in research, analytical thinking and academic communication. Alongside these core requirements, students complete a 24 credit point minor chosen from a wide range of disciplines that include humanities, languages, social sciences, creative arts and specialised fields such as criminology, psychology, archaeology, philosophy, political studies and geography. This minor allows students to focus on a particular area of interest and develop structured expertise. In addition to the minor, students undertake 36 credit points of elective units, with at least 12 credit points at the 200 or 300 level, offering the flexibility to broaden their studies or deepen knowledge in specific areas. Electives may be chosen from any discipline offered by the university, provided that prerequisite and scheduling conditions are met. This structure supports both academic development and personalised study pathways.
