COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science (Epidemiology) is a 200-point program designed to provide advanced training in the study of disease patterns, determinants, and prevention strategies. The course structure combines core disciplinary knowledge, elective subjects, professional skills, and a research project. Students complete 75 points of discipline core subjects, including Epidemiology 1 and 2, Biostatistics, Regression Methods in Health Research, Survival Analysis and Regression for Rates, and Epidemiology in Practice. Elective subjects (25–37.5 points) allow students to tailor their learning to specific areas of interest, such as global health, ageing, indigenous health, health economics, or sexual health. Professional skills subjects (25–50 points) equip students with essential abilities in research methods, data analysis, scientific communication, and project management. The program culminates in a 50-point research project, undertaken over two consecutive semesters, where students apply epidemiological and analytical methods to a real-world health problem, developing expertise in study design, data collection, and interpretation. Students without a background in biology may take up to two approved biology subjects to build foundational knowledge. The Master of Science (Epidemiology) prepares graduates for careers in public health research, epidemiology, policy analysis, and academic research, equipping them with the skills to address complex health challenges at both national and international levels.
