COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public Policy and Management is a comprehensive graduate program designed to equip students with the analytical, theoretical, and practical skills necessary for leadership roles in public policy and management. The program offers multiple pathways depending on a student’s prior experience and background, including a 200-point, 150-point, or 100-point option. The 200-point pathway, typically completed over two years full-time, is aimed at students who have completed undergraduate study, and it includes 37.5 points of compulsory subjects, a capstone project, and elective subjects that allow for a wide range of study options. The 150-point and 100-point pathways are tailored for students with relevant professional experience or honours-level qualifications, providing a more focused program while still incorporating core subjects, a capstone component, and electives.A core feature of the program is the capstone requirement, where students complete one of three available streams: a minor thesis, an internship, or a project. This ensures that students gain hands-on experience, either through research or professional practice, consolidating their learning and preparing them for real-world application. Compulsory subjects, including Foundations of Government, The Principles of Public Management, and Theories of Policy Process, provide students with a rigorous grounding in government structures, public administration, and policy-making processes. Foundations of Government is recommended for completion in the first half of the program, while the other two subjects are typically undertaken in the second half.Elective subjects allow students to tailor their program to their interests and career aspirations, whether that is research-focused, practice-oriented, or a combination of both. Throughout the degree, students benefit from engagement with leading academics and practitioners in government, public service, and related sectors, gaining insights into contemporary policy challenges and management practices. Graduates emerge with the skills, knowledge, and professional experience to influence policy, lead teams, and operate effectively in complex, dynamic public and not-for-profit sectors.
