COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public and International Law requires students to complete a total of 100 credit points, offering the flexibility to design a program of study that aligns with individual academic and professional goals. Students who have not previously studied international law must undertake International Law, a foundational subject that is strongly recommended for all students to ensure a clear understanding of the global legal framework. Those without a law degree from a common law jurisdiction are generally required to complete Fundamentals of the Common Law, although a waiver may be granted based on prior study or relevant experience following approval from the Director of Studies. The remaining credit points can be selected from an extensive list of specialised subjects, all of which are relevant to the field of public and international law, enabling students to build depth in areas such as human rights, constitutional governance, international institutions, comparative public law and global dispute resolution. The program has been structured with working professionals in mind, offering subjects throughout the year from February to December. Most subjects are delivered in intensive formats over five days, while some take place weekly across the semester for two hours per session, providing options to balance study with professional and personal commitments. Students may also choose between online delivery, which incorporates recorded content, live teaching and interactive forums, or on-campus classes delivered through collaborative, discussion-based seminars held in the Law Building. Full-time students complete 50 credit points per semester and typically finish the degree in one year, while part-time domestic students may undertake 25 credit points per semester and complete the course in two years, with the option to extend to a maximum of four years if studying at a reduced load of 12.5 credit points per half-year period.
