COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Psychology (Educational and Developmental) focuses on understanding early childhood development, learning challenges, mental health, life transitions, and promoting wellbeing across the lifespan. Students develop expertise through a reflective, student-centred learning curriculum that is closely aligned with contemporary educational policy and practice. The program emphasises applied knowledge, preparing graduates to contribute effectively to schools, clinics, community organisations, and other professional settings.A key component of the degree is the integration of supervised fieldwork. Practicum placements provide practical learning opportunities in a variety of settings, including schools, learning centres, hospitals, private practices, and community organisations. These placements allow students to apply theoretical knowledge, develop professional skills, and gain experience in real-world contexts.The course is structured as a 200-point program, including nine core subjects, 1000 hours of supervised fieldwork, and a 10,000-word research project. Full-time students can complete the program over two years, while part-time domestic students may extend study over four years. The program has a single annual intake in February.Teaching is delivered primarily face-to-face at the Parkville campus, with some subjects offered in intensive Saturday workshops to accommodate working professionals. The combination of lectures, workshops, and supervised placements ensures that students gain both academic knowledge and practical experience, preparing them for a career as a registered general psychologist and a pathway to endorsement as an Educational and Developmental Psychologist. The course equips graduates with the skills needed to assess, support, and promote the development and wellbeing of children and young people in a range of educational and clinical contexts.
