COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) program is designed to develop graduates who are equipped with the theoretical knowledge, practical capabilities and professional competencies required to work as clinical psychologists. The program provides a comprehensive foundation in the discipline of clinical psychology, with a particular emphasis on the assessment, understanding and treatment of serious mental illness. It also aims to familiarise students with the medical and mental health systems in which clinical psychologists work, ensuring they are prepared for professional practice in a wide range of clinical environments.A key focus of the course is to develop high-level clinical skills alongside advanced abilities in research and evaluation. Students are encouraged to integrate research evidence into clinical decision-making and to contribute to the scientific knowledge base of psychology. Through this dual emphasis, graduates are prepared not only to become practitioners, but also leaders within the clinical psychology profession who can generate, apply and evaluate research that enhances psychological services and outcomes. The degree combines coursework, supervised clinical placements and a minor research thesis of 6,000 to 10,000 words. Students undertake 14 classroom-based subjects across two years, complemented by 125 days of supervised placement, including 30 days in the first year and 95 in the second year. These placements enable students to apply developing skills in real clinical settings with diverse client groups.Coursework covers broad and advanced areas of clinical psychology, including psychopathology across the lifespan, assessment and diagnosis, cognitive-behavioural therapy, individual and cultural diversity, ethics and professional practice, and specialised clinical work within medical settings. Through this comprehensive training model, graduates leave equipped to provide evidence-based psychological intervention and contribute meaningfully to the improvement of mental health and wellbeing across communities.
