The Master of Mechatronics Engineering is a full-time program of two to three years in duration, depending on a student’s previous study and level of preparation. The degree begins with foundation engineering subjects designed for students entering from a non-engineering background, ensuring they develop essential mathematics, science and introductory engineering knowledge. Students who have already completed a Mechatronics Systems major with the required prerequisites in their bachelor degree receive credit for these foundation subjects and commence directly in the second year. In the second and third year of the program, students focus on advanced mechatronics engineering, integrating mechanical, electrical and software engineering to develop technologies for automation and modern manufacturing. Throughout the course, students gain skills in computer-controlled systems applied to robotics, autonomous vehicles and CNC machinery while also exploring innovative solutions that enhance industry processes. The degree includes major project components such as the Mechatronics Capstone Project, where students conduct design, industry or research-focused work alongside leading engineering researchers and present their outcomes in the Endeavour Engineering and IT Exhibition. The program also incorporates opportunities for industrial experience, including an academically credited Internship subject of 10 to 15 weeks within fields such as electronics, automotive, robotics and manufacturing. Students may choose to specialise in Manufacturing, enabling them to deepen their understanding of physical production systems and apply mechatronics principles to create advanced products for modern industry, or continue without specialisation to maintain a broad engineering profile. Additional subjects include industry innovation programs such as Creating Innovative Engineering, where students collaborate with industry mentors on real-world design challenges. Overall, the degree equips graduates with professional engineering capabilities, hands-on experience and strong industry connections, preparing them for careers across technologically advanced sectors.
