COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Genomics and Health is a 200-point program designed for professionals and recent graduates in clinical, health, education, public health, research, or laboratory science fields who wish to gain advanced skills in genomics. The program equips students with the knowledge to understand human genetics, its clinical and research applications, and the complexity of the human genome. Students learn to interpret genomic data, assess risk for patient care, and apply ethical and legal principles in healthcare contexts. Communication and research skills are also developed to ensure graduates can work effectively across clinical, research, and industry settings. The program is highly flexible, allowing students to tailor their study through electives, research projects, and internships to suit individual interests and career goals. Internship and research opportunities with leading institutions provide practical experience and broaden career pathways in genomics-related industries. Students can choose to complete the full Master degree (200 points) or exit early with nested awards, including the Graduate Diploma (100 points) or Graduate Certificate (50 points). In the first year, students complete core subjects including Clinical Genome Variant Analysis 1 and 2, Human Genetics & Genomics in Healthcare, Societal Implications of Genomics, Clinical Genomics, Foundational Counselling Practice, Healthcare Research-Principles & Designs, and Advanced Communication Skills. These subjects introduce bioinformatics pipelines, variant interpretation, genome sequencing, and the broader societal and ethical context of genomics in healthcare. In the second year, students progress to advanced subjects such as Frontiers in Genomics 1 and 2, which focus on translational genomics, evaluating research, and implementing findings into routine clinical practice. The program culminates in a Genomics and Health Internship, providing hands-on, real-world experience in clinical, research, or policy settings.Graduates of the Master of Genomics and Health leave with advanced technical knowledge, practical experience, and a flexible skill set that prepares them for careers in genomic medicine, research, policy, education, or clinical genomics roles, making a tangible impact in this rapidly evolving field.
