COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering Structures is a one-year full-time postgraduate degree designed for engineers seeking to enhance their specialist knowledge and advance into senior roles within structural engineering and related industries. The program focuses on exploring essential themes such as structural systems, conceptual and sustainable design, advanced analysis techniques, and designing under extreme loading conditions. Students gain a thorough understanding of the principles and practical applications required to design high-rise structures and navigate the engineering procedures involved in working with materials including structural steel, concrete, and masonry. The course consists of 100 points of study, including two core subjects: High Rise Structures and Structural Theory and Design 3, which provide a strong academic foundation in advanced structural behaviour and design processes. Students also benefit from the flexibility to tailor their learning through a variety of elective subjects. At least three electives must be selected from structural engineering options, allowing deeper exploration into areas such as disaster-resistant design, engineering modelling, and the effects of extreme loading. In addition, students may choose up to three electives from infrastructure engineering, offering opportunities to broaden their expertise with subjects covering topics such as port and harbour engineering, environmental modelling, and engineering management. This structure enables students to customise their learning path to align with professional goals and emerging industry demands. A sample 100-point study plan illustrates a typical structure, where core subjects and elective subjects are distributed across two semesters to balance workload and support academic progression. The program blends theoretical learning with practical application, preparing graduates to deliver safe, sustainable and innovative solutions within major construction and infrastructure projects. By completing this specialised degree, students develop the advanced analytical, technical and problem-solving skills required to excel in structural engineering roles and contribute to complex engineering environments.
